Lyrics – “Old Man and the C”

My group Journeymen dropped a video for “Old Man and C” – the “C” is ambiguous. We left it to our fans to figure it out, would it be Castro? Cuba? Cigar? Communism? Choice? Che? Churchill?

The video was shot in Bedstuy, Brooklyn alongside Journeymen members, Mic-Key Boston, Melo Malo Paulino and John Wholetrain. Directed by Phil Mimoso, we wanted to cover the story of being stuck at sea between Cuba and United States, not knowing which reality would be better?

Many have been in limbo between what historically happened, we didn’t take a specific side, we wanted to narrate a story, a story of being uncertain of which reality to pick.

Regimes have been brutal and neither side was angelic. People die and make sacrifices in any given revolution. People purchase Che Guevara tees as well as other “Revolutionary” tees and collectibles, but do they know what they are purchasing? Or have such items become a part of mainstream pop-culture or just a means for selling stuff because it’s marketable and cool?

Truth is, Sultan Mir pointed how none of you people out there can even survive under communism…when it comes to this matter, even emcees or producers can provide different perspectives…it’s a matter of choice, lifestyle, what do the people want as a government. We took no sides, we gave the story as it was with an unbiased position. Till date, I haven’t seen a modern government that meets the needs of all people…I’m looking forward to the A. Fontaine project…

LYRICS

Mickey Boston verse 1:
Anatomy and physiology/
I hold a revolutionary ideology/
You can build a man and watch em stray
Like a bullet ricochet and put another life out of play/
What u heard about this land very far away/
Is nothing more fabricated by the CIA/
We could narrate the story of the doctor Che,
But i prefer u take a good look the other way/
Im sure youve seen their forefathers coming out of Spain/
They could swim in Santiago like Pinochet/
You see these politics are nothing more than strange, its JFK by the marlin by the Bay/
We could scuba dive and see the stars,
Im talkin Marilyn Monroe in the Bentley large/
You see Hollywood used to camp out here/
With the glamour all year, big yachts by the pier,
peasant Rhum right here.
HOOK – John Wholetrain:
Stop and analyze forget lime and Rhum
All the propaganda lies see them rise above
Relics of the Missile Crisis and Reaganomics
So they roll cigars fix pagan tonics.
Melo Malo verse:
I got a split personality like the island of Hispaniola
Makin moves like dudes looking at Puerto Rico from mayola
Thats a ghetto canoe or a small boat like Manolo in Scarface used
To escape the government abuse by the controllers/
keep the chosen, toss the unwanted like Castro to Florida/
you cant stop us, i make you quit your American dream
like Elian Gonzales’s father/
tribe of Simian brothers know that my style’s proper/
i herbally engage, then i flip this dope,/
like this sample im Peruvian Cocaine/
Canadian medicinal New York ritual Queens
where Jackson Heights natives recieve no reservation homes/
regardless of brittle bones i am the face of Rome
in this meditation scroll/
i get you open to something different like different strokes/
when you rap, no one believes in your gifts like Santa Claus.
HOOK – John Wholetrain:
Stop and analyze forget lime and Rhum
All the propaganda lies see them rise above
Relics of the Missile Crisis and Reaganomics
So they roll cigars fix pagan tonics
Mickey Boston verse 2:
You see Fidel grew the beard, lit the radical career/
and put the socialism in gear/
“what we fightin for is best for our peoples,
we claim America evil”/ Pinar del Rio/
Torcedoras role cigars legal as other men smoke regal/
in the bathtub checkered floor sequel/
mr. Winston Churchill light it up to the thrill of the Ben Franklin bill/
see his hungry belly fill and his aging cognac spill/
to the sound DB 18 Grill/
Ernest Hemingway write the Old Man and the Sea
pin stripe Joe Dimaggio in the land of the free,/
“mr. Yankee, indigenous men cant even breathe”/ when you control what they see and control what they read/
see the newspaper print black lies on the ink bleed.

HOOK – John Wholetrain:
Stop and analyze forget lime and Rhum
All the propaganda lies see them rise above
Relics of the Missile Crisis and Reaganomics
So they roll cigars fix pagan tonicshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkHmg-D55JQ
